Yes. In June 2006 the rules changed and now all Assessors need to have achieved unit standard 4098 “Use Standards to assess candidate performance”. This unit standard is in the Health Ed Trust On-site Assessors Course. Also required is a completed Assessor Application Form to show evidence that skills, knowledge and experience have been attained to become a capable Assessor. See the Assessor information on the “Assessor and Assessment” pages.
You will need to contact Careerforce (Ph 0800 277486) and ask if your qualifications can be cross credited.
Changes from July 2008 will mean that all Assessors will need to have unit standard 4098. If your Assessor has unit standard 4098 and is an Enrolled Nurse, Manager or Supervisor they may be able to assess unit standard 5012. Please complete a Assessor Application Form and sent it to Health Ed Trust and we will advise the scope of the applicant.
The standards setting body, which is usually the ITO, consults with Industry to establish the standard that an individual must meet to assess unit standards. Some standards require a higher level of expertise than others but this is decided by people with standing in the Industry and relevant knowldge and experience. These rules are recorded in the AMAP (Accreditation Moderation Action Plan) which is approved by NZQA and registered onto the NZQA Framework.
