Healthcare Education Organisation
The Gateway Programme

This is a government initiative that allows secondary school students to incorporate workplace learning with school based studies.

This is an exciting scheme where secondary school students can work a few hours per week in residential care while still at school. Students obtain unit standards and learn more about aged care. The programme also strengthens the links between schools and businesses and can help smooth the transition from school to work for students. Facilities that are hosting students find this a most rewarding partnership for students, managers and residents.

How it works?

Senior secondary school students  work in a residential care facility on a regular basis (usually once a week) and obtain both qualifications and work experience. Assessor time and all student fees are paid for by the Gateway Programme. Health Ed Trust provides guidance and documentation with setting up in the first instance and all the relevant education materials.

The learning plan currently offered by Health Ed Trust will comprise all or some of the ACE Programme unit standards from the National Certificate in Community Support Services.

For "The ACE Programme" unit standards, their version numbers and credit value, download the breakdown:  Gateway Programme Breakdown.pdf

The Gateway programme costs are covered by the School, using Gateway funding from TEC.
