To be an Assessor for Health Ed Trust the following qualifications are needed:
- The Assessor Application Form needs to be completed and sent to Health Ed Trust. This needs to show evidence that skills, knowledge and experience in the Industry have been attained. We recommend this form is sent in first. Once approved prospective Assessors have three months to attain unit standard 4098
- Unit standard 4098 “Use Standards to assess candidate performance”. See below on how to complete this unit standard using the Health Ed Trust On-site Assessors Course
- Assessors need to also have qualifications in a relevant field at or above the level they intend to assess at. The Health Ed Trust programmes are at Level 3. For example: A senior caregiver with a National Certificate, an E/N or R/N, a Diversional Therapist.
These requirements are taken from the 2009 NZQA Assessment and Moderation Actions Plan.
To obtain unit standard 4098, staff can complete the Health Ed Trust On-site Assessors Course. (This programme also contains unit standard 11281 “Prepare candidate for assessment.”) This is a flexible learning programme – completed in your workplace at a time that is convenient to you.
All material is supplied with the Course. As with all the ACE courses, pay once and use the materials as many times as you need.
Health Ed Trust recommends that each facility has more than one Assessor.
All Health Ed Trust programmes must be assessed by a qualified Assessor (see above).
Assessment is in most cases completed on-site by an Assessor appointed by the facility or the organisation they work in. Assessors assist with programme delivery and student guidance.
If the company does not have an On-site Assessor there are often other Assessors available in your area who will assess students work.
- This can be a one-off arrangement through to a permanent position where the Assessor delivers the programme on a regular basis.
- To obtain the name of an Assessor please contact the Health Ed Trust office.
Please call the Health Ed Trust office on (03) 379 8519 if you would:

Introduction
Moderation is a system used to ensure that education providers and workplace assessors are making consistent and reliable decisions or judgements about Students assessed work.
Moderation is necessary because any assessment includes a margin of error or variation in standards because of differences in the way that the assessment is interpreted by Assessors.
Moderation 2011
Each year Health Ed Trust will select unit standards for moderation, which will be the same unit standards that NZQA and Careerforce (CSSITO) have selected for that calendar year.
Health Ed Trust will advise Assessors which unit standards are to be moderated.
Assessors are then required to keep all completed samples of these selected unit standards assessments for the calendar year, as they may be required for moderation by Health Ed Trust and Careerforce.
From July to December 2011 Health Ed Trust will moderate the following modules:
ACE Programme - Modules 1,4,7
ACE Advanced Programme - Module 4
ACE Dementia Programme - All modules assessed (new course)
New Assessors* - All modules assessed.
* less than one year as an Assessor
We will advise you December 2011 which modules will be moderated in 2012.
For further information please refer to this document.
