ACE Dementia Series

This programme is ending in 2010. If you have students working on this programme please encourage them to complete it as soon as possible. Most of this programme will be able to be cross credited to the new qualifications. Please contact Health Ed Trust to find out how.

This 8-module series was developed to provide a comprehensive on-site education programme for care staff involved in the care and support of people with dementia. It incorporates unit standard 17029 ‘assist a person who is affected by dementia to meet daily living activities.’ This unit standard can be cross-credited to the National Certificate in Support of the Older Person and the National Certificate in Diversional Therapy.

The modules for this series are:

  1. Delirium and Dementia: An Overview
  2. Caring for Carers
  3. Person-centred Care
  4. Managing the Effects of Dementia: Part One (Focus on the physical environment and communication)
  5. Managing the Effects of Dementia: Part Two. (Focus on the functional effects of dementia)
  6. Understanding the Behavioural Effects of Dementia
  7. Understanding the Psychological Effects of Dementia
  8. Restraint Minimisation and Safe Practice
