ACE Core Programme

This programme is ending in October 2010. If you have students working on this programme please encourage them to complete it as soon as possible. Students should not be starting work on this Programme.

This 12-module programme was developed to provide on-site education for care staff in residential care facilities. For each topic there is a video, manual and full set of assessment materials.  The topics covered are:
  1. Residential Care Facilities: An Introduction
  2. The Ageing Process
  3. Physical Care of Residents: Part One
  4. Physical Care of Residents: Part Two
  5. Infection Control
  6. Fire Safety, Civil Defence and Crime Prevention
  7. Lifting and Physical Safety
  8. Continence Promotion and Management
  9. Communication Skills
  10. Nutrition & Hydration
  11. Basic First Aid
  12. Medication

This comprises additional assessment so that the ACE Core Programme fully meets the assessment requirements of unit standards:
  • 5012 - Lift and position people safely
  • 5015 - Support an older person to enjoy life in residential care
  • 5016 - Provide a safe environment for an older person in residential care
  • 5019 - Assist an older person to meet their physical needs
  • 5020 - Suppport an older person to maintain their rights and responsibilities
Some of these unit standards can be cross-credited to the National Certificate in Community Support Services (Level 3)  and Diversional Therapy.
